This small dictionary presents, with simplicity and humor, certain number of words and elementary structures of the Breton. Following every word, we give a simple sentence which, by means of the drawing, brings to light the sense: the Breton sentence is then translated into French and into English. For every name we give, onto the same line, onto the singular and onto the plural, with article, when the type of word allows it: the transfer, that is the change of the initial consonant, allows to spot the kind. |

Finally a tool
intended for a wide public to master the Breton language. The work It is about a work of 230 pages, about 15.5 x 23.5 cms, printed in two colors (black + blue). Text in a police, examples in another police. IT is of a very affordable price: 16 euro. Numerous dismissals allow the user to find at once articles related to the object of its research (for example in the Syntax part . A title running at the top of every page allows to find a way easily. The used terminology wants clear and simple, within the reach of a wide public. Flaps, with grammatical information, allow to have directly certain elements under eyes, and to make it bookmarks. A cruel lack It is in the narrow contact of the difficulties met by the learners that the idea of this grammar was born. There was a cruel lack of a Breton grammar for the general public. Indeed, there were until then only elementary grammars (in aid of the novice learners, the level or the level 2, the false beginners), either of former(ancient) made grammars when people spoke spontaneously about Breton and just needed certain points of den; either otherwise very sharp grammars (historic, local), or in the direction of a public of specialists (academics, linguists). There was no complete enough tool for the average user wishing to have quickly clear and precise answers, with a vocabulary of easy access, or answering daily questioning. Public This work was made for all those who learn the language, those who perfect there, and those who wish to master it, as well for the schoolchildren, the high school students, the students as for the adults living the Breton language to the everyday life (level perfection, speaker or semi-speaker who wants to improve his knowledge of the language), both at the level of the paper and of the oral. The contents All the basic concepts and the rules of training(formation) and employment are grouped together there, by insisting on the particular difficulties that a French-speaking user can meet. Points which can mislead, or frequently subject of error by the learners, are indicated by a distinguishing feature. The grammar is widely uniform on the whole territory of the Breton language, but the main dialectal differences are indicated. The levels of language are also indicated, for example usual old-looking, literary, scientific, popular language, register Furthermore The presentation is clear. The terminology is simple and accessible to all. The explanations want also simple and accessible. So the schoolchildren, the high school students, as well as those who left the school programme for a long time or who have never made literary studies or linguistics can use it with no problem at all. When the computing allows the general public to use abundantly the paper for the communication, the work makes a particular place in daily concerns as the cut of the words, the use of capitals, abbreviations, etc. The new habits boundto the new technologies are also approached, as the way of spelling a phone number for example. The author and the editorial committee Eugène Chalm ( 1919-2002 ), native of Cap-Sizun, primary school teacher and professor of Breton in Mayenne, author of booksof colorful memories, was also, during of very long years, a proofreader(examiner) in the coursesof Breton by correspondence of Skol Ober. It is thus to the contact of the difficulties met by the learners that the idea of this grammar came to him(her). The contents of the grammar were seen again(revised) and completed by the team of the controllers of Skol Ober courses of Breton by correspondence, which exists since 1932), and the editorial work led by Divi Kervella (author of current Assimil of Breton, and scientific member of council of the Office of the Breton language).
